Trying to Conceive? Tips for a healthy fertility journey

2–3 minutes

Trying to conceive (TTC) can be an exciting yet overwhelming journey for new mums and soon-to-be parents. Preparing your body and mind for this significant life change is essential, and several tips, foods, herbs, and healthy habits can enhance your fertility. Here are some recommendations to consider at least six months before actively trying to conceive.

Maintain a Balanced Diet

Eating a nutritious diet is crucial for both partners. Focus on whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Foods rich in antioxidants, such as berries, nuts, and green leafy vegetables, can help protect cells from damage. Incorporate sources of folate (leafy greens, legumes) and omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, walnuts) to support reproductive health.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is vital for optimal bodily functions. Staying well-hydrated aids in hormone regulation and supports healthy egg production. Aim for at least eight glasses of water a day.

Embrace Healthy Habits

Regular exercise can improve overall health and regulate hormones, enhancing fertility. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise weekly. Additionally, managing stress through yoga, meditation, or deep-breathing exercises can positively impact fertility.

Limit Toxins

Reducing exposure to environmental toxins is essential when trying to conceive. Limit processed foods, avoid plastic containers for food storage, and opt for organic produce when possible.

Explore Herbal Remedies

Several herbs can support fertility in both women and men. For women, Maca root can help balance hormones and increase energy. Red clover is rich in vitamins and minerals, promoting reproductive health. For men, ashwagandha can boost testosterone levels and improve sperm quality. However, always consult a healthcare professional before incorporating herbs into your routine.

Consider Supplementation

Taking a prenatal vitamin with folic acid is essential for women, as it helps prevent neural tube defects and supports healthy fetal development. Men may also benefit from zinc, vitamin C, and CoQ10 supplements to enhance sperm health.
